Taken on Machias Seal Island this past weekend. It was difficult getting group shots with all the birds having good HAs but I think this one works.

    Canon 7D
    70-200 II @ 102mm
    1/800
    f13
    ISO 400
    EC -.33
HH from blind, cropped from horizontal, luminosity mask, levels, curves, selective dodging and burning and sharpened in CS5.

    C&C welcome and appreciated. Thanks,

    Rachel

Hi Rachel, another keeper, well exposures, good colour, well processed, (apart from the dust bunny RHS) . Personally I might lose the rock on the RHS for continuity and replace it with the sea, but...

Pretty shot of these puffins, nice and sharp, all in focus. Since Steve pointed out the oof rock I can't stop looking at it.

Its a lovely image; what is really nice about these is your tech settings and well as your obvious creative talent.

Great group pose; not always easy, as you suggest. The tough light of Machias was handled well, as was the choice of aperture. Another vote to lose the oof rock.

Hi Rachel, you nailed the HA's in this. Not easy to get a group to co-operate, someone is always looking the wrong way. All three well exposed, good DOF and sharp. Their colours stand out nicely. Another vote for removing the rock. Looks like you had fun there.

Fiine work, full of interest and captures their habitat perfectly. Two of my fav people in the world, Louis Figueroa and his lovely wife, Maria, were up there last week, did you meet them? Exposures up there are so tricky and you worked magic with your editing.

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. Here's a repost implementing Steve's suggestion to replace the bg rock with water and seconded by many others. I also took care of the dust bunny.

Machias is a great place and thanks to advice from Grady, Roman and Steve K. ahead of time, I had the right lenses with me and good advice about EC and DOF. I also followed advice to book multiple days to try to ensure a landing and got lucky and landed all 3 days. That gave me a chance to really experiment with different settings and also to be a little more patient in waiting for the right shot (at least on the second and third days ). Fortunately, we also had a little more time in the blinds each day because the Canadian company has not started its trips yet and the weather and tides were favorable.

Grace - I don't think I met your friends. I went to the island on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

    Thanks again,

    Rachel

Lovely! If anything maybe moving the birds slightly higher in the frame. Getting rid of the oof rocks looks good.

This is really great Rachel, the light looks fine to me, the repost is just right, very nice.
The birds look fantastic, all sharp, f13 was a great choice.
