    Default Jabiru with Fish

This image was taken on our trip on the Amazon in Peru. This bird took flight as the skiff we were in accelerated up the river. The time was 9 am. I was fortunate to catch this image of the stork as it started to lift off with fish in beak. I wish the shadows weren't so strong but any attempt to lessen the shadows reduced the black of the head as well. Several pieces of grass were cloned where they were distracting but I left the rest as this is the environment he is found. This is a male as the red on his neck shows.

While I like the wing and the feather detail there, I wish the head and the fish were a bit sharper. But I was happy to get any image as both the skiff and the bird were moving and the camera was hand held.

    Nikon D7000, f8, 1/2500, EC -.67, ISO 500, 80-400 @ 400.

Post processing, some cloning of grass over the leg, levels, contrast increase, sharpening. Highlights on fish and beak were toned down.

    Comments welcome.

Exceptional considering the circumstances; lets not forget this is a pretty rare thing to see let alone capture and you did very well

Nicely timed, apart from showing all those lovely feathers in the wing, he/she is caught mid jump as well especially considering difficult photography from a skiff. The whites look well handled especially considering the strong light. Good job on any cloning you have done, cant detect it easily.....I prefer my fish cooked thanks lol

Never seen this bird before, Linda , so TFS . Action well captured. As mentioned the light was quite harsh.

Thanks everyone! I'd never seen the bird species before this trip. While we saw a number of them, this one was special because of the fish. I'm glad you all enjoyed seeing him.
