oops, title should read Storm Rider...must get a new prescription for my glasses

    Nankeen Kestrel / Falco cenchroides.

It was blowing a gale here yesterday with intermittent thunder and rain, not a good day to take the camera out. However, often when we have strong westerly winds here the Nankeen Kestrels hover, or attempt to hover in the strong updraughts rising up the cliff faces over the sea hunting mice. They have a tough time of it being buffeted wildly by the strong wind....as does the photographer trying to hold a long lens steady enough for a decent shot

Dealing with winds and a shaking camera in mostly dull grey sky and light, the occasional patch of blue did manage to shine through briefly and took my chances for a shot or two. Was not able to get the light in the eye as would of liked and I think as usual the 7D shows a bit of noise under these kind of conditions

    Canon 7D + 500mm f4 + 1,4 x TC.....700mm, 1/1600, f6.3, ISO500, +0.7EV, partial metering, no flash, hand held........no crop, slight sharpen and noise reduction to backdrop

The angle suggests that the bird had passed you already . Difficult lighting conditions , handled well . Would bring down the contrast a wee bit .

No crop, wow nice and close. Eye looks fine to me and very natural. Agreed that bird is past you a bit but still a very nice photo.

Nice and sharp, nice exposure and love that intent look.
As mentioned, the bird is just past you, but a great job nonetheless.

Odd view, but I like the expression. The head is nice and sharp, I sort of wish the wings were as well.
Very nice getting FF of this.

Great flight shot. Nice pose. Blured wings give it movement. Loved the details and expression.
