I've got both on order. I was given the choice between 500 and 600 due to the extremely small supply of new glass. I chose the 600. Thanks to Gary Farber and John Duggan at Hunt's Photo for their excellent customer service!

Doug - let us know if the old Don Zeck lens cap for the 600 version 1 (if you have it) will fit the new 600 version 2.

TFS Doug. You can see where they saved some weight around the tripod collar. BTW - What is under the 2012 BMW tab?

What happened to the focus ring on the new lens? Looks like the design of the new LensCoat covers that area up?

Hi Robert. I don't own one of those lens caps. The new hood is the same diameter and slightly longer than the old hood.

Great choice! The new 6 looks really good. A 600 and a 650, sounds like toy heaven.

    Hi Doug,

Thanks - probably (most likely) the diameter is the same (front glass) - it is the depth from the rim to front glass that is the critical dimension then.

The Zeck lens cap fits onto the front element (without touching it) - and is made from super hard moulded plastic...very protective of front element - do a search on the internet...these have been a fine investment for the series 1 telephotos. However, the new Canon lens cap with the series 2 (at least with the 600mm II) seems much more functional (protective) and durable than the version 1 leather cap that looks and feels nice but does nothing in terms of protecting the front element.

Thanks again - by the way, the posts here have been very helpful and informative. I don't get the sense of :"i have the biggest one in town and that makes me a photographer" - other forums (fora) are suffering with such nonsense. Nice to see people willing to share knowledge and talk to one another

    Best Wishes,

    Bob/nyc
