I hope no one is tired of Loons yet...I've got this one, and probably a couple more I'd like to share over the next few days...

    Canon 7D with Canon 500 f/4 + 1.4x II, ISO 400, 1/800, f/7.1, hand and knee held from a kayak
PP in Lightroom 4.1 and CS5, selective noise reduction on background using Nik Define 2.0, selective sharpening using Pixel Genius Photokit Creative Sharpener 2 and Output Sharpener 2

Comments and critiques appreciated and always welcome...thanks for looking!

    Cheers!

Excellent exposure and details, Bruce. The fg and bg green is just gorgeous and that eye is captivating.
If possible, I'd have pointed the lens further down for two reasons - to balance the comp a bit in terms of the negative space above, and in case I got a sharp full reflection.
Some head turn towards us would have worked nicely as well.
As presented, I do like the image a lot.

Beautiful FG and BG. I find your composition unusual but pleasing-maybe take a bit more off the top.
    Excellent IQ
My biggest nit with this shot is the HA. I wish for a bit more head turn.
All in all, a very nice image,
    Gail

Love the dark moodiness of it, Bruce. Colors are beautiful both on the loon and on the background. Composition can be tweaked if you so desire.

Great processing and love the greens!! I too would love a better head / body angle. If you have it I'd add back at bottom to avoid the reflection being cut at bottom edge. Great stuff...and yes, keep them coming!!

Thank-you to all for your helpful critiques. This is full frame, so unfortunately I have no more canvas at the bottom, but will keep in mind to leave more room for potential reflections in future. I will try a 'more pano' crop on this one, or look through the days shoots again to see if there are any with better comp and HA.

    Cheers!

Very nice picture, Bruce. To me the bird is unusually low in the frame. I would take an inch or more off of the top of the canvas.

Thanks Karl...there seems to be a consensus regarding the comp.
