    Default BEARDED VULTURE ( IMMATURE)

    Attached Images Attached Images

An immature bird preparing to land in glorious early morning light - Giant's Castle , South Africa
    These birds have a wingspan of 2.6m ( 8.5 ft )
The underbody feathers, including the feathered legs and the long undertail coverts are usually rufous or orange from staining, altough the natural colour of these feathers is white.
They acquire this rufous staining from iron oxide on the feather barbs. The vultures acquire the colouring during normal routine of bathing ,loafing on ledges and investigating caves. The deposit is then spread around by preening.

Hi Arno, brilliant IQ, and not to mention the light. A well balance comp, and you certainly captured good detail on the vulture. Killer GC BG too. Gotta get there sometime - never been.

Beautiful landing pose, the composition works well for me. If mine, would give another round of selective sharpening on the head.

    WOW!
Great pose and the light and BG are amazing. I think Giant's Castle is a reason alone to visit SA!
Would clone out bird dropping on rocks and do another bit of sharpening on the head.
A superb picture and thank you for the information you gave. Very interesting,
    Gail

An impressive image!! Some more sharpening on the head and maybe some more room on the left would be great IMHO.

Agree about a touch more sharpening on the head region, but what an enviable image in every respect

Comp. is wonderful. The bit of rock is just enough to give the sence of what is going on. Well balanced and exposed.

Very nice, great IQ, and good DOF to get the landing sharp.

Beautiful light, pose, background and bird. I agree on the additional sharpening on the head. The rock and bit of veg anchor the image nicely.

My eyes lit up when I saw this image - absolutely superb. After studying it and becoming insanely envious I would agree about a tad more sharpening to the head.
