I wish I'd had my lens opened up for this one -- BG is too busy. Also a bit tight in the frame. I wish the head was turned a little more this way. This is a beautiful little bird I'd never heard of before.

    Ian,
You just provided a solid critique of the image and I agree with the points. The main opportunity here is the steep angle and the distracting background. Remember the frame needs balance and thats includes harmony within the four corners of the picture. I cannot stress enough how important it is to control the background to allow the picture to have a subject, to tell a story.

Thanks, Jeff. I agree completely, but grabbed it anyway as it was a very unusual bird for me. Interesting your comment about the steep angle -- I was actually very slightly above the level of the bird.

    Ian,

I fully understand and do not want you to think every picture must be perfect to post in the forum. This is an education and learning forum we are are working to improve that includes me. Often I photograph things that interest me or I have not seem before. The key to better photography is talking pictures often (some say every day) post, comment and most of all HAVE FUN.

Regarding the steep angle a pro told me to use a TC (1.4 or 2.0) when shooting a steep angle to flatten the shot.
