    Default Double Landing

I was not going to post any more Osprey photos until there were chicks, but I took this a couple days ago and liked it.
Both parents left the nest (unusual), flew across the River and came back in with more nesting material.
I took several frames of them coming in, but I had wing overlap, etc.
I got separation at touchdown. I also moved upstream from where I usually stand for a bit different BG.

    Manual settings, 1/1000, f6.3, ISO 1250, 600mm (300 f2.8 w/ 2X), Handheld.

Nice action, and great to get both birds in focus with some eye contact!

EXP, SH, and d-o-f all good. Lacking only a better head angle for the upper bird and a bit more room on the left. Did you crop from the right?

Arthur, I always fuss around with how to crop.
I think it would be interesting for people to always post their out of camera photo along with the final product.
Here is the Out of camera Raw downsized and converted to jpeg with nothing done to it except the minimal sharpening for the web.
It was a 43mb file, full frame, converted to jpeg and saved at 88 (234kb).
I did crop a bunch from the left and the bottom. The nest is on a piling in the river, not horrible, but I always crop it out.
I would be interested in your opinion about how you would crop. I maybe should have just posted the Full frame image. It is not bad in my opinion.

    Dan,

    What a marvelous image 11/10!

HA does not bother me at all.

If I can make a suggestion about the crop I would go a little more open all round in particular the left, but obviously not at the bottom

Sir, I like the original post with nice view of full nest and more of giving natural feel. Great landing pose captured.

Super shot, love the details and poses.
I prefer the repost crop and I would crop just a little off the bottom as you did in the original I would also add just a little canvas to the left and crop just a tad off the right.

    Hi Dan,
    Great shot.
I would crop a sliver off right and bottom as in original. The OP feels a bit tight.
It would be so easy to clone in some twigs to cover the pilings and that would give the viewer a bit more of a feel for the size of nest. Personally, I don't mind the pilings. They have a nice worn weathered look.
Awesome BG and excellent IQ. In a perfect world the HA would be a bit better on the top bird but that is a minor, minor nit,
    Gail

Fine suggestions by all above. Fine wing positions for both birds and sharp, I like the angled placement of the birds and nest. Looking forward to chick images.

I like the balace of your original capture better than your crop. I don't mind the weather worn pilings. Love the two incoming birds and your wonderful background.

I feel you cropped too tightly top and right in your OP, and in your FF version I like the OOF tree at left so I wouldn't have cropped half of it out and I too actually don't mind the pilings! A fun one to try to compose optimally!! I like the tweaks you did to make the birds pop.

Thanks for the comments and sugggestions.
I printed both versions this morning (8 1/2 X 11) and I do like the Full Frame best.
I may just crop it a tad.
