    Default Sitting in Miami Airport....

    Attached Images Attached Images

Waiting for my late night flight to Orlando and then a long ride home. Started the day in Tobago at 8am. It is now 9:30. I will not be home until 1:30 am at the earliest :).

The rain-bathing immature White-necked Jacobin was photographed at the Asa Wright Nature Center with the Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens, the 1.4X III TC, and the EOS-1D Mark IV. ISO 1600. Evaluative metering +1/3 stop: 1/50 sec. at f/8. Fill flash at -2 stops with the Better Beamer.

Don't be shy; all honest comments welcome.

ps: You can check out two pretty cool manakin images here.

I cannot offer much advice on this, this is simply a gorgeous image. The pose, exp., detail, and flash use are splendid, love the rain drops on this little bird.

I also think this really nice, Arthur.
The raindrops and scruffy pose are nice and I like the flash fill.
I think moving it a bit more to the right would look nice, it seems pushed a bit to the edge of the frame.

At 1/50 this is superb.I particularly like the pose, the rain droplets and HA , and how the light glows on the bird. Do I detect some noise or is it just on my monitor ?

One nice detailed shot Arty, I like the look the Jacobin is giving you and the slight hint of catch light in the eye.

If anything, a small crop from the right but cropping, as we know, is such a personal thing.

Gorgeous image of a gorgeous bird!
Excellent pose, detail, exposure, and composition.
Also like the way that the dark BG on the right creates a "spotlight" effect on the bird.

First class, lovely detail and amazingly sharp for 1/50 sec, the bill is not pin sharp maybe this is movement as opposed to DOF? I think I would be tempted to remove the white speck on the eye, I like the droplets that have bounce off the head.

Looks good to me! Great technique and great lens to allow such sharp image at 1120mm at 1/50th of a second! Looks pretty clean from ISO 1600 (unless you applied some NR) - shows how good the Mark IV is. Excellent work!

Fantastic pose and excellent sharpness! The raindrops really add to the image.

I like the tucked-in-the-corner pose for this one with the bird looking up .

There is some BKGR noise as expected at ISO 1600 and the image properly (under) exposed to prevent over-exposure of the WHITEs. I rarely concern myself with noise. Here I ran NR on the BKGR only and it did not do much so I ran a fairly strong round of Denise Ippolito's killer NR trick: Filter/Blur/Surface Blur at 5/8. Please let me know if you see a difference in the JPEG.

Thanks Richard. See my note to Dan above. BTW, thanks a stack for your membership support and welcome. I should be around a lot more for the next five weeks or so and hope to see some of your work here.

Thanks Ofer. No NR on the ORIG. See Pane 11 for more on the subject. Yes, the lens and 4-stop IS are great but poor sharpness techniques will not produce sharp images....

Great pose, light and the water droplets add interest.
It is a very pleasing image, indeed.
