Default Laughing Gull With Spiralling Pipefish Prey.

While photographing shorebirds this Laughing Gull landed just to the right of me. Seeing that I had already taken many images of this species from the trip (plus, the shorebirds were just amazing!) I half ignored it...until from the corner of my eye I realized it had a wriggling prey item between its' mandibles!! Time to switch subjects and concentrate on this action!! I took a good number of photos and I was super thrilled when later reviewing my photos and found this perfectly spiralling pose on the pipefish.

Photographed at Fort Desoto's East Beach.

    Canon 7D + 100-400L @400mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2500s., f/6.3, ISO 400, natural light, handheld, FF.

Wow! What a great image Daniel. Perfectly timed, the gull looking at you, I can see the pipefish eye, and his tail is not bisecting his body. Excellent image.

Caught that moment at the perfect time. Nice exposure all the way around. 'Makes me want to run out to Red Lobster and order the steamed Pipefish!
