    Saw this lovely hawk near Maupin, OR a few weeks ago. Because RTHs are so common in that area and given the dark character of this bird I assumed it was a RTH. Sent image to my bird expert at the Malheur Field Station and Duncan quickly corrected me. Swainson's Hawk, Dark Form. Taken with Canon 1D MkIV, 400 DO IS +1.4X TC, at ISO800, f8, 1/3200, 0.33ev.

    Excellent take off pose and a beautiful Hawk.
    I could not have ID'ed it, It almost looks like a Harrier.
