    Hi to you all,
    photographed this King cobra in Kaziranga NP in Assam.The guides were afraid as my friend and me jumped of the gypsy to get some more or less decent shot of that snake.All survived this action.

    Canon EOS 1D Mark IIn
    EF 500 IS L + 1,4 TC
    tree stump for support
    F 8 / 1/350sec / ISO 400 80 % OF FF

    Processed in DPP + PS

    Incredible sighting and great photo. As a herpetologist, this is one of the holy grails. Certainly an awe inspiring snake.

    I'm very impressed. Beautiful image of a beautiful snake. My dad was a herpetologist and he once told me that the only snake which scared him was the King Cobra (Big, Fast, and Smart)

    Hi Andreas. Excellent use of the 500 mm + TC "Macro" lens! I like the tight comp and you have very good sharpness within your DOF - my eye goes right to the snake's head - as it should. Very well done!

    Andreas, a King Cobra isn't exactly what I think of as a macro subject but you did well with your big 'macro' lens! The DOF is perfect for this subject. The only thing that could have made this better would have been having the snake's tongus showing but I imagine you didn't have much control over that.
