I really like the soft subdued feel of this image. The use of B&W fits it very well. The stems receeding into the unknown is a real treat.
Dynamite image. I like the b&w, and that gray in the background is just wonderful. Is that from the original shot, or did you perform some kind of digital magic to get it there?
I'd suggest two things in terms of composition. Even though I often like tight crops, it seems a bit close on the right -- not just because of where the flower ends with respect to the edge but also because of where the center of it is with respect to the total width. The other thing is that the open flower facing right likely sends the viewer's eye right () out of the frame. Flipped horizontally, that doesn't happen. At least, that's how I see it.
I forgot to mention I used a texture on the image. But the lighting in the background was helped by Darken/Lighten Center. Re the crop, I've been fooling around with it, but just decided to post it for feedback. The OP feels tight but balanced. I'm "chewing" on it.
Jay, I love this! The dark, subdued, almost mysterious look of the image is wonderfully creative. The texture and your choice of B&W are perfect for the mood created. Great stuff!![]()
Jay, the black and white really works well with this image. I like the almost silvery grays and the texture is perfect. Nice work![]()

Hi, Jay. This is a strong B&W; I like Dennis's suggestion about adding a bit more room on the RHS, I could go either way on the flip. If it were mine, I adjust the placement of the texture, bringing it down some in the frame so that it wasn't quiet as bright in the negative space above the flowers and a bit brighter below. I might increase the contrast in the original just a bit as well...to my eye it looks like Dennis might have done that, I'm not sure. This would be a good image to "hand paint" with color as well...I 'd be interested in seeing more of your technique from the bridge.
Hi Jay. Saw this last night on my laptop but wanted to take a look on a better monitor. Excellent. The tones are fantastic and the texture is very complementary. I'll join Dennis and John about the RHS but I like your orientation. I think it allows your eye to flow from left to right/dark to light whereas with Dennis' flip, my eye never makes it past the center of the flower.
Very nice image and application, Jay.
I like your OP, as to the flip issue, but agree a little room is nice. But Y.I.Y.V.!![]()
Thanks everyone. Good feedback again. Couple of good canvass ideas, I will give a try.
Pretty nice work Jay, the B & W really bring out the flower..well done. Agree with above a bit more room nice.
HI Jay...superb B&W! I vote for the flip but the OP is also fantastic! Either way this one is a winner!
Jay, The B&W looks great and so does the softness. I agree with a little more canvas. Well done.
