As most of you know, when you spot a bird bathing point your lens at it and don't set your sights off of it. Not only is the bathing/splashing action entertaining and fun to photograph, but you are virtually guaranteed to get a wingflap at the end of it. Don't forget to compose or zoom wider to prevent clipping the wingtips!
Fort Desoto, East Beach.
Canon 7D + 100-400L @300mm, manual exposure, evaluative metering, 1/2500s., f/6.3, ISO 400, natural light, handheld, rotation and cropped for comp.
Well advised. I never feel like a voyeuristic pervert when I'm watching birds bathe...I do as Daniel says, o yes! And folks, you should too! As for the picture, I like it very much. What's not to like? Sanderlings are cutiepies and this is a nice pose in nice light! Ergo, a fine picture! You certainly got some great pictures down in FLA. I'll be heading there this winter for the first time in 23 years and and although I'm already terrified of flying, I can't wait to see Ft DeSoto...thanks for sharing this, Daniel!

I like the nearly centered comp of the perfectly straight-forward head. Excellent exposure with good detail in the whites. Well timed on the air-born wing flap. Great water background and I too like the water features in the forground.
Great tips too, also as Artie suggest, I'll often choose a lower AF-sensor when anticipating a wing flap to avoid clipping raised wings.
Hi Dan, great head on flight/bath shot of this guy. So much fun to watch them doing their preening activity. You captured that well, like the drooping down feet.
