Southern Australia had a mouse plague in 2011, so a number of young were about and I was able to get a little closer than ever before. Not much colour up yet. Comments very welcome.Attachment 113906

I like the pose and head angle, good focus and shutter speed too. If it were mine, I would add a little space left and bottom and I would try to boost the contrast and sharpen a little more as well. Nice bird and as you know, not easy to get close to....well done!

Hi Ian, nice to see you posting here! This is a really nice capture - sweet light and detail. Well done. I agree about adding some space. Your kit here is the same as mine right now. The 400mm looks really good with the MKIV.

Thank you both for advice: will do so. Yes Kerry the 400 with the MK1V seems to go quite well :
focus is surprisingly quick and as the camera can handle much higher ISO's its a good travel combination.
    Thanks again

I've still yet to get sharp shot of this species, this is very nice, well focused and looks very good especially with the blue sky. Agree a little more contast/sharpen would work to improve slightly

Nice to see another Adelaide person on here, I'm in Onkaparinga Hills

Ian....Nice shot! I have yet to be able to get a good shot of this species.....They are always just out of range of my 500 mm! I like the OP as is....maybe a bit more room to the left as suggested by Joel!
