    Default a simple Bonaparte's Gull

but not in breeding plumage! Anyhow, it's my favourite accessible gull and here's a picture taken with the Canon 7D and 70-300L at 260mm. iso400, 1/3200, f5.6...a wondrous time was spent with these fine gulls on one of Lake Erie's beaches. This picture is perhaps simple and boring but I like it! I do! Will you? I'll welcome your comments. You're looking at approximately 75% of the original...compositional ideas will also be welcomed, if that's your cup of tea...

I like the flight angle, sharpness and blurred wing tips. I was thinking a crop like this.

Yes, the repost's crop works better indeed. I always enjoy a good gull image...I'm just missing a catchlight!

I like the crop too. Not my favorite angle but it works.

Thanks Roman. What's your favorite angle? I'd love to know...

Almost like the HAP.....slightly towards you and either the full up or full down wing position. Shows off the bird the most IMO. For me.....while they can work.....right at you makes them too streamlined and doesn't show off the feather details. Personal preference for sure. Make sense?

Actually Roman, that's some terrific advice, but what does HAP mean? Thanks for your time...

HAP is short for Head Angle Police on this site. While not a card carrying member.....the head angle is preferred to be parallel or a few degrees towards you. This is just another of those guidelines that can be broken......but it does seem to have more appeal when the bird or animals head is slightly towards you.

Here is a link to a tutorial that discussed HA (head angle) in depth. http://www.birdphotographers.net/for...le-Fine-Points

Roman, again: thanks for taking the time. I make fun of the head angle police constantly but in the end the joke is on me as I find myself agreeing with them at least half the time...will peruse that article for sure. You are helpful and excellent!
