He is one crazy coot, I guess

Here is a look at a coot with whom I recently spent some time. Taken with the Canon 7D and 70-300L at 269mm. iso400, 1/800, f8. You're looking at roughly 75% of the original capture. Also, I cloned out a few muddy bits in the water. Does this beloved bird have a magenta cast? Please do tell, as your monitors are likely to be crispier than mine. Moving on to the pious world of composition now: I deplore assumptions but this composition warrants an assumption, and here it is: many of you will take issue with the centred-in-frame bird? Which is to say: it is often unappealing to present one's subject dead-center in frame. So say the photogs of the world. Oh boy! I love to read your comments and ideas and suggestions, which are so often helpful and revealing and educational and frisky! Many thanks for your consideration...

Here is my repost with how I feel the comp should be. I aslo boosted the saturation on the BG, ran a touch of NR on it as well, and added a touch of sharpness to the little fellow too. Of course, you can do better with your original.
