Female leopard on top of a termite mound in the Sands. It had been a very rainy morning, and was still spitting a little with mist all around hence the green BG. Canon 7D, 300mm lens with 1.4 converter. No editing to BG, was a distant tree and mist creating the soft green BG.
    Settings: 1/800s, f5.6 IO640
Beanbag and panning plate on passenger door for stability. Welcome to crit or comment! This is a slight crop, mostly to get rid of some space above.

    Laura,

I like the soft colours of this, the tick is rather large but it is unfortunately for the Leopard entirely natural.

Hi Laura, thanks for explaining the reason behind the crop it does help.

Critiquing the image, to me it has a slight cast to it, so reducing the cast and applying some tweaks in Curves, Blacks & Neutrals I think it moves in the right direction. I would also suggest some selective sharpening too, on the face. If you open the image up in Canon's DPP, control J it will show you where the focus point was, can you tell me please. Depending on how you feel, I would also suggest trying to replicate some of the markings to lose the vegetation marks in the body and correct the slight vignetting in the top LH corner. In this instance a slightly slower SS would have helped the rain streaks if you wanted them more prominent, as the Leopard looks as if she was not going to be moving for a while.

Hope this helps in my thoughts.

Hi Laura - nice clear look at this leopard, always a treat. Steve's rp really takes this to another level. It has improved the color, contrast and sharpness.

Much improved on the re-post Laura. I re-calibrated my monitor and reset my embeded profiles back to correct. Sorry for the last critiques being so off. I bet you have a real keeper here. I would re-work the image and go a touch brighter or richer color space, warm it up if it were me. Many thanks for sharing.

Thanks Laura, I can see where Grady is going, but I think based on the weather conditions and probably light, a more cooler approach was the way to go, but you need to distill from the various replies what you need to do to your image, if anything and then implement.

If you can locate where the FP was that would help.

    cheers

Hi Laura, I like how you have placed the leopard, looking down into the frame. I do see a slight yellow cast in your OP, and Steve has shown what can be done.

Lovely portrait, Laura...and Steve has really extracted so much more from it. I might even go for the overall WB a slight tad warmer than he's made it, but that's personal choice (obviously without losing the rainy feel). The key is that the eyes have "life" in them now, they were obscured by the dull green cast in the OP (original post).

Laura, After some reflection, I think your cooler colors are better. I did use levels, moving mid tone slider to the right to .79, some slight contrast and a auto curves. How does this view look? The OP is still a great keeper as is, just a different version from me to present. TFS.
