    Default Polentswa landscape

I took this image in the early morning at Polentswa waterhole. I had just been watching a brown hyena drink when these eight lion headed for the waterhole to slake there thirst. This image is typical of the northern Nossob river in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park with the beautiful Acacia erioloba trees in there various forms and the beautiful early morning light that one gets in this area. This for me encapsulates th beauty of this park with the wonderful lions a bonus in the image.

This one rock Mark, love the bushveld scene. Out of focus lions in the background work nicely and add interest.

Just wonderful picture. I like the soft colors of this. I guess i really like that kind of nature, and I think you capture it just fine. I just maybe would crop away some of the green grass at bottom.

    Mark,

Excellent composition and beautiful image. At first I had little trouble finding a strong subject to anchor my view. After finding the lioness I really enjoyed the image.

    Wow this is beautiful, Mark!
I love this for the same reasons you do. A beautiful area of the Park with those acacia "forests". I have yet to stay at Polentswa (one day when the kids are bigger) but I love the whole area north of Nossob and especially from Polentswa to Grootkolk and Union's End.

I felt you image could use some "oomph".
In this repost I ran Hougaard Malan's midtone contrast action, setting the darkening layer at 30% and lightening layer at 10% opacity, with the contrast layer at 40%.
I then added some selective saturation - being careful not to overdo it - and then ran Robert's multiplied highlights lumo mask at 30% opacity one last time.

    WDYT??

    Mark,
a really fantastic animalscape image.there is a very strong depth in the image ,because of lions and trees in various points all over the image.the comp works perfect ,good exposure all over felt i could have been there myself.

When i look at Morkels RP i like that one too, gave the image a really popp!!!! Well done Morkel, i like what you made out of the image.

    Cheers Andreas

Hi Mark, Morkels RP has taken it to where it needs to be, however I still feel there is a 'smoothness' especially on the main lioness???? Perhaps the grass in the FG on Morkel's RP is a bit bright, so I might bring you portion back in to the image. I trust you are getting out & about over here to build on variable light & fieldcraft .

Hi Vivaldo, Gregor, Sid, Steve, Morkel, Ken, Andreas and Steve,
Thank you for your time to post your comments, they are always gratefully appreciated. Morkel, your repost is an inspiration and I have completed a repost with added mid tone contrast, any comments welcome. I have not saturated the colours as much as your repost Morkel, WDYT.
Steve, last month I was up at Bempton Cliffs, I have never been so cold in my life.

Mark, I think yours looks more natural, but I quite like the punch of Morkels, 50/50 I guess. If you are using an external source to post, please check it,as you have two images, so perhaps a quick edit would be in order to remove the additional one , thanks.

    Mark,
I still think the OP is best.

If you do not like cold then do not go to Hwange in June, the record is -8, none to comfortable in an open vehicle

Mark - beautiful scene, well captured and processed. I prefer Morkel's repost, it has a bit more pop and richness.

Ditto for me too. And the pink sky threw me at first too, by the way. But I love the pano framing and the strong look of the determined lion up front to the right. Well done, spectacularly so. Spending a few minutes looking first certainly helped me to take it all in, then start finding the subjects, then letting it al blend in together. I like it the more I look at it.

Nice scene with great colors. I like the look of the surroundings of Morkel's attempt but prefer the look of your lioness in relation to the surroundings in your repost (knowing his PP abilities, most likely due to the size of the posted image, his looks just a little too "pasted in"). Would be happy to print and frame any of the versions.

    Hi Mark,

This is so typical of the Nossob area of the Kalahari - wish I was there!!
