Default Chance encounter and Reddish Egret

A solo trip to Ft DeSoto was more of an adventure than anything. My goal was to see the infamous Reddish Egret on the North Beach. As it turned out this part of the park was much larger than I anticipated. I walked up and down for some time not seeing it. I only had that afternoon and the next morning to find it and let alone try to get a decent shot.

I came back the next morning with a better idea where it hangs out. Parked the car on the north end, walked over a 'wooden bridge' and turned right to a smaller lagoon. It was no where to be found. Some time passed and I was about to give up when I saw two ladies walking towards me in the water. They were following the Egret as it came towards the lagoon where I was waiting (someone was listening to my prayers).

I noticed one of the ladies with a 'huge' camera and lens on a tripod. As she got closer I introduce myself and as it turned out she was a Canadian just like myself. I travelled 2,600 kms and the first person I met was a fellow Canuck from Nova Scotia.

Gail was with Nikki and they were both very friendly offering some advise and company. It was great meeting Gail and Nikki, next time I will take you on that Hooptie Deux offer.

Gail is the reason why I joined this forum and for that I thank you.

Great hunting position of this Egret, I do like the low angle and the definition, BG too. IMO the photo would be even better if the beak wash`t "touching" the wing.

    Ramon:

Excellent IQ, light, sharpness, exposure. Like the little wave lapping on leg.
Agree with Humberto about the wing/bill merge.

From a comp. standpoint, I might move him a bit right in the frame.

Neat to run into friends when out shooting!

    Cheers

I agree with the bill/wing merger, but I like the comp as is. I really like the small splash in front of the leg, very cool. Desoto is a magical place...even back in the 80's as a young boy I was always mesmerized by it!!

    Hi Ramon,
Very nice image. In a perfect world the beak would not merge with the wing but that is a minor nit. Great wingspread and IQ and light.
I am glad you are enjoying BPN and hopefully you will get a chance to go on the Hooptie Deux with James.
