Another shot from the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. Captured at Rancho Sierra Vista. Late afternoon sun, handheld from behind some brush, which made a good blind. The bird is hovering, which is a behavior it shares with a few other raptors. Full frame capture. Clouds added by me in PS using a cloud brush.

Really nice capture of the Grey Ghost! Looks like had a prime position for this one. I saw several of these at Bosque but their flight patterns were low and unpredictable such that I never got a really good flight image.

Kerry, How in the world did you get such amazing detail in the bird's belly and under-wing plumage when photographing looking up at the sky? The sky is perfectly blue and yet the bird is wonderfully exposed. I don't imagine a "beamer" flash was used. I would be curious to know how much editing (if any) was necessary to draw out the feather detail and maintain the blue sky at the same time.

Very nice, Kerry! Not often do you get a chance at these guys from below! Nice exp! The clouds are a nice touch, but they kinda look cloned in. Maybe a little blurring on the clouds would help?
