I made an image similar to this earlier and sort of stumbled on to the technique. This one was deliberate....beginning with a macro image of a Tiger Lily :)

Hey, Joel, this is really cool and beautiful. I can see the Tiger lily in the planet. Would you mind sharing how you created it? It seems so realistic (as outer space) and yet it's so abstract at the same time. I like it a lot

    Thanks for the kind remarks.

I started with Pixel Bender TubeView. By adjusting the center point and radius I tried to isolate a small part of the image that is mulit-colored for the planet. I "fiddle" with all the sliders in TubeView to get the basic image.

Following that I used some dodging and burningas well as levels and brightness to adjust the lighting.

On this image I created the stars by placing some very small white dots on the image with the paint brush first and then used Topaz Star Effects.

Thanks, Joel, for sharing. I haven't used TubeView before (but now I will).

Joel, it is great to see you posting here and working "out of the box". You probably know that this is my favorite forum. I really like the image. Very artistic thinking and execution and thanks for sharing your workflow. Your trick of adding white spots to create stars is excellent!

Very cool and creative image, Joel! Amazing transformation, love the spiral flow to it and stars are great touch.
