    Default Large monitor for photos

    After talking with some folks about some of my images, they suggested I upgrade to a monitor more ideally suited for photo editing. Presently, the one in my study that I use most often is actually a TV/computer monitor by Samsung. Not a bad combo when I am working on family snapshots but lacking when working on the finer, higher quality needed for wildlife images. So looking for ideas. I need a flat screen that can be wall mounted and would prefer a very large monitor if they make it....I am going to look at a NEC that someones suggested. All input is welcome.

    Steve,

    NEC 30" Spectraview displays are top of the line. I dont own one but worked on it couple of times at a local print shop. Exceptional details and it is like seeing images in a new world. They come with complete calibration package.

    I have an apple cinema HD dispaly and they work pretty well with spyder 3 calibration. Even with out calibration apple displays are not that far from accurate color representation IMO.

    This used to be U$799 alone.

    It comes with the software and hardware for calibration (SpectraView II Color Calibration Kit). Something like $250 alone.

    If you are looking for 30" your choices are either NEC or HP. NEC is a bit better but twice as expensive.

    thanks to all...I am going with the NEC as suggested.....while pricey, I think it will at least reduce one possible contributor to some of the problems I am seeing or not seeing with the Samsung Tv/Computer monitor setup I have. While the Samsung is a high end unit and no doubt is fine for many purposes, I now know about the pixel issues and no doubt the dynamic adjustments that the unit makes...which while fine for many purposes is not ideal for image work.

    So I do have a Color Eyes package for sale cheap ; }

    There is also a DEL 30" and does apple still have the 30" I read a while ago that the HP, Dell and apple cinema 30" displays all used the same LG panel.

    This thread should be moved to workflow.

    Thanks Roger, looked hard at the apple. Thunderbolt would not work and the cinema 30s would have been the choice there. Apple had a few connection opportunities that meant some additional purchases and work to install where my existing monitor was that closed the pricing delta for my individual situation. did not look hard at the Dell and that might have been in error. and read really good reviews on the HP (per Robert Otoole). The HP looked real good and might have been the choice had I not already pushed the "purchase" button. You could almost set up a 2 monitor system for the price of the NEC. Good news is that right now at least, BHphoto has the NEC about $500 less than the standard posted price. and my existing mounting system will work on the 27lb monitor without stand.

    so hopefully the problems my monitor has contributed will be behind me for awhile and I can focus on other more fun things.
