The young Pied Cormorant looking into the parent's throat just before it pushed its head deep inside to get the digested fish - looks pretty aggressive behaviour....

Fantastic behavior capture that is slightly grotesque and yet beautiful at the same time. Can't believe the parent didn't have a nictitating membrane going. love the curving lines of the neck with its black stripe and the raised wing and the shapes of the spaces between.

    Thanks for your comments!
Melissa, what an interesting observation! I didn't even think about that. I don't recall ever seeing the nictitating membrane in any of these behaviour shots and I got quite a few in the last three years. I assume cormorants have a special membrane....? That's for the expert Ornithologists.

As usual take a bow Ofer! Love the water drops, green eye, and clearly seen too. The other bird shoving its beak and mouth into the others works because you cannot see whole the eye of that one, just enough to grab interest. Well done mate.

Yes very observant Melissa and I am surprised too. It is very agressive feeding behavior and I have seen some wading birds with really torn up beaks and faces from the young ones feeding. Nice shot Ofer
