Loves the suet feeder, but finds it empty this time....we did fill it later. Wondering if this pose it ok as "different" or just too awkward.

Hi Hazel! Cute little guy! I would be tempted to crop out a lot of the house to focus the viewer's eye on the woodpecker. The face is a bit dark - a bit of fill flash might have helped here. The white's on the back of his neck look a bit hot, but I don't really trust my monitor here at work. It would have been nice if his head was turned a tad towards you, but that is tough to control! TFS!

Hi Hazel, very good critique by Ian. I like the image and wish for more light on the face. I would crop from the left almost to the top corner of the feeder, then expel the little bits of branches. Sure looks determined to hold on!

    Hazel,

Great comments above, the strong shadows are distracting remember you are shooting the light not only the subject. The frame is too busy and a bit tight, always decide what to include or exclude from the frame. As the photographer you control this - for example the dark branch on left side adds little to the image. Please include the shooting mode (AV, M, P TV) and assume it was HH. Thanks for posting and keep em coming.
