    Sorry for the very poor picture quality. The id of this bird eludes me completely. Picture was taken 7 years ago east of Jasper Alberta, July 18th. Could be a juvenile. I just can't put the whitish head stripe and the rusty breast/throat on any one kind of bird.

    Any suggestions much appreciated!

    Hi Thomas. This is a Varied Thrush. I'm not sure if it is a juv or an adult female though.

    Based on Sibley it looks like a male, perhaps a young one moulting into adult plumage (almost there?). A female or real young one would have much less distinct head markings.

    Thank you, Dan and John! I was thrown off by the colour of the head marking. According to Sibley's it is quite orange which doesn't really show like that in the picture.
