Travel, undergoing IV chelation for lead and mercury--24 sessions, finishing up the contest, writing for Outdoor Photographer, posting to the blog most every day, and writing Bulletins. And tomorrow is my grandson Sam's Bar Mitzvah; a houseful of guests is arriving today.

IAC, I made this image while leading an in-the-field workshop for 15 folks--we traveled by bus leaving at 5am--for the Tualatin River Festival this past weekend. Canon 800mm f/5.6L IS lens with the EOS-1D Mark IV. ISO 400. Evaluative metering +2/3 stop: 1/1000 sec. at f/8. NIK Color Efex Pro White Neutralizer to make the BLUE sing.

Don't be shy; all honest comments welcome.

ps: do visit the blog often to vote on the various contest categories; the winners of the Captive categories should be posted sometime on Friday. Comparing the public voting to that of the judge's will prove most revealing: www.BIRDSASART-blog.com

You are a superman Artie, that's some crazy schedule. Congrat to Sam too.

Like the interesting perch here and the golden light, and the feather in the bill. Great details in the whites!

    Artie:

Love the curving perch, sharpness, exposure, faint lines in the BG,pink feet, fluffed up pose.
Pleased you left the feather in the bill.

Get some sleep, get well, move forward!

    Cheers

Thanks Randy. What is sleep? I need some time to watch the hockey and NBA playoff games on TIVO. AS for the feather--I left most of it but did remove one bright bit towards the front of what I left :).

Excellent pose, exposure, perch, duck-like webbed foot, comp. I'm surprised you didn't catch what looks like a dust bunny in ULC :-)

Thanks Dan. The sensor cleaning on the newer cameras is so good that I rarely look anymore. And when you get one it usually gets cleaned automatically. Bad for Lens Pen sales :)

KD and Dan K. Earl . Thanks a stack. Tomorrow is the big day. He is getting a 70-200/f.4L IS, at 1.4X II TC, and an EOS-50D from grandpa. He might faint as he loves photography. Did I mention that he is way-smart? His little sister Maya, 9, is getting a G-12 so that she does not feel left out on Sam's big day.

Hi Artie, you seem to nail the exposure on whites so well, and just love the overall IQ in this. Cool pose with the slightly raised wings, and a good HA too. I also like the curved perch.

Beautiful soft pastel colours Artie and exposure on the whites. Lovely shaped perch and head angle.

Thanks Vivalado and Stu. Stu, it's just a matter of getting at least some data in the right-most histogram box. I try to get my WHITEs so they open in Photoshop with non RGB values greater than 230-235, especially with the 5DIII.

Wow, that's a very congested agenda!!

But I'm sure it keeps you going. Nice to hear that your grandson is gettig such great gift from you.

Love the bird, pose and I am with Stu, you always nail those whites with such ease! Daniel must have a pretty expensive monitor or his eyes belonged to an eagle at some point since I can also see the dust bunny but it really requieres attention to find it! :)
