    Default Departure of #44

A long time between drinks but finally I have another zebra morph image to share. I have a little more work to do but thought I'd see what people think so far. I have posted 'Birth' and 'Recognition' (not named that when posting) and this is going to be one of the end images in the series with the zebra moving off the production line so to speak. Turn left for the wild, right for domestication Or something similar ..... work in progress.

I may give the zebra more horse features before I finish. I have another 4 months to get this finished so no hurry. Love to know what you all think.

I think this is such a great series, Hilary. I absolutely love that the zebra morph on the left is blurred a bit, showing his wild and free side. A couple of thoughts: I think the zebra/horse on the right could look a little more horse-like. Also, I might try to off-center that zebra butt a bit, since it's kind of in your face when you first view the image. I'm sort of on the fence about the horse's harness.

    Wonderful idea and super creative

Hilary, I am loving how you are thinking so far out of the box. Very creative and fun! I'm wondering if a crop from the right would work- but I also like your vision with the extra canvas there.

Interesting and unusual vision you are following. I would like to see a bit more detail and darkness in the lower right quarter. As it is, that area draws my eye away from the zebra/horses. Love how the left side of the image looks. Nice, subtle colors. Well done.

Thank you everyone, that is just the sort of feedback I need as it is quite hard to be objectively critical of your own work. All the suggestions have merit so I'll have a look at them all and repost!

Hilary, this is an interesting, thought-provoking image. I'm sure from the zebra's point of view that turning left would be going into the light and turning right would be going into the dark
I agree with Maureen about the centered butt and I'm also wondering about the harness although I understand your thinking on that. I think more "horse-like" would be better.

Cheryl, thank you, you make an excellent point about the going into the dark/light. I may just swap the morphed zebra/horse to the one heading into the dark. I'll have to think about it. I knew it would be a good idea to throw it into the OOTB pool … such great observations.

I like Cheryl's observation about which fork in the road to its destination would be darker, but I don't know about swapping the two figures unless you also switch that foreground thorny vegetation to the other side, too. It seems like it should be on the wild side. I wonder about leaving the two figures where they are and swapping light and dark. (Easy for me to say.)

I'm just fine with the bridle on the morphed animal. More than fine, really. It speaks of domestication. With it, the horse's face, and the brown tones along the neck and back, the animal's looking very much in transition to me.

I agree with Maureen's suggestion of moving the zebra in the center but, perhaps, for a different reason. To me, it's the one faced with turning one direction or the other, so I'd like to see it midway between the other two. However, I'm guessing that at least it and the morphed one were captured in the same image and you couldn't move the one in the center without reconstructing the missing parts of the one on the right. I wonder about moving the one on the right (with a background that'd be easier to fill) farther to the right and adding on the rear of a pony moving in the same direction.

Denis, I can't thank you enough for all the effort you put into that critique, you make some excellent suggestions. The base image is full frame as shot with some added canvas on the right so any move of the right hand zebra will take some degree of effort. I have a bit of work to do so will return with a revision as soon as I can get a passable version.
