Courting terns are alot of fun to watch and these two put on quite a show for me. I wish I had boosted the ISO for faster ss but the sun was in and out and I dropped it down for previous shots. This was a tough exposure to get details on those blacks and i wonder if the whites are a little hot looking? I would like your input.

interaction is excellent and I love the fact that you have eye contact from both. Composition is very elegant.

Whites are not hot but they don't have any detail and I am not seeing much detail in the blacks either. Looks like it had too much NR applied?

Hi Cheryl, I like the catch light in the eyes, but there is no detail in the black or whites, not sure if it is NR?

All my images from this shoot had a kid of cloudy soft look to them. Not sure why and i struggled to find detail myself. I later noticed a large smudge on my 1.4. Could that be thew reason? Absolutely no NR at all applied just sharpening.

Stunning pose m'dear. Gorgeous comp as well. I see what you mean about the slight softness/lack of detail--you didn't happen to wipe the mirror with a t-shirt or anything, did you????
But I think you can get away with that here, as you have an almost painterly effect going on and I think it looks wonderful. Nice job, GF!

Hi Cheryl, great image design with both Terns interacting with each other. I like the crossed bills too. The whites are well exposed, but have to agree that there is no plumage definition. Both Terns still stand out nicely against the grey BG.

The eye contact, crossed bills, bg, and comp are superb. As for the softness I like this image just like it is.

Hum...that doesn't sounds right. At this close up distance should get plenty of details. can you post a 100% crop? it's a great image and worth the work to get it absolutely perfect!

I love the interaction here. The minimalist look, with white whites and dark dark blacks, works for me, regardless of feather detail.
