    Default Grey Heron

    Canon 1D mk iv
    400mm f/5.6 + 1.4x TC
    1/2500 sec
    f/8
    ISO 1600
    Manual exposure
    50% crop

This is the 1st time I've photographed Herons. Next time I'll aim to reduce my shutter speed to around 1/1000 sec as they don't fly very fast with a corresponding drop in ISO to about 800 (it was an overcast day so I needed a reasonably high ISO). This shot was hand held and I think for the distance involved a tripod would have improved the shot. Critique welcome.

Excellent pose and I like the background for the most part - you could crop from the left to past the brown spot. The heron itself looks a bit bright, especially the face and neck, and I do see some noise on the wings that could be dealt with in post. Good job overall.
