    Default Red-headed Woodpecker

Haven't posted in a while as I don't have a chance to go out and shoot. The bird is facing left but I felt like cropping more to the right in order to show more of the forked tree. I'm not sure if the composition works or not.

    Eric,

When ever a bird photographer sees a beauty like this you must share, what a beautiful baby. It is a steep angle but still a great moment with nature. The techs are solid with the TC you were almost wide open at f/8/0. You are correct, the opportunity is the composition. The bottom is where my eye gets hung crop some there and the right side of the frame to balance the image. I do not see Red Heads often are they popular around there - keep posting - nice one.

Hi Eric, good job of taking advantage of this opportunity. I do feel that the composition is just not right for the subject, as the image ends up being about the tree and bird seems to be just "there". Don't know how much cropping you've already done, but this one should really be composed so that the bird's tail is in the lower right corner.

Thanks for the comments Jeff and Kerry. The photo is already heavily cropped so cropping it more tightly will greatly degrade its IQ.

This was taken in Nebraska and I don't see many Red-heads in here that's why I took this opportunity when I saw one on the trail of the parks here.

I hope to encounter this bird again to get better photos.

Thanks again for your comments. I greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for sharing. I'm glad you didn't pass on the opportunity to shoot such a beautiful bird. Pretty sharp considering hand-held and cropped. Keep posting.
