This fellow actually held still on a clean branch with a nice background for a couple seconds!
Canon 7D, EF100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM. Handheld; 400mm @ 1/500 at f/5.6, ISO400. Cropped to about 75% of original size. Converted from RAW in LR4, processed in CS5 (a stray branch and a bright spot removed, NR, all on background.

Great catch Steve. This is one of my nemesis birds and I have yet to get a good shot of this species. Excellent that you got a clean BG as well. Nice pose.I find the eye a bit soft and would selectively sharpen it. I do wish I could see the entire tail. Definitely a keeper,

    Steve:

Good comments from Gail. To my eye, your point of focus was anterior to the eye, as the rump looks a bit sharper than the eye.

Well exposed. I would consider burning in the lighter areas of the vertical stick as they do draw ones attention.

    Cheers

I love this species, hope to get some images again this year! Good comments from above, I will just add that I find the image very blue overall...I added some yellows and reds in "Colour Balance":
