Finally had some time to get out and take some shots and have a little fun.
Flipped this picture of a feather washed up on the beach stones, and it seemed to have a rough outline of a baboon-like face. Then blended in images of a lioness' eyes and a gorilla's nose both taken at the zoo, and my cats mouth. Used soft eraser to further blend in and smooth edges of those layers. Created some eyebrows from cats chin hairs by rotating selections with free transform tool. The flip created two stones on each side at bottom that reminded me of fingers, so copied one, and added a third finger to each side to make it more like hands holding the stones. Some color, levels & contrast adjustments in CS5 and subtle vignette added using burn tool. Sharpening, Topaz Detail, and finally added some structure using Viveza to bring out a bit more texture.

Denise, I think you're right about adding a bit more on bottom. Kerry, Where the Wild Things Are was one of my favorite books as a child, and heard the news about Maurice Sendak, so it was on my mind. Such creative illustrations and great story of adventure to activate the imagination. I also liked the movie very much - almost as much as My Life as a Dog.
