Default How much to ask for trade-in lens?

I'd like to buy a new lens from my local camera store and I know they sell used gear. I'd like to trade-in a lens that is in excellent shape (practically new) and includes the box, all original packaging, etc. And, the trade-in lens was purchased from the same local store (I think the receipt is still in the box).

How much should I ask for the trade in? (as in percentage off the purchase price?)

MSRP on the lens is 499.99
Ebay used have sold for 350 to 390

You'd probably have better luck selling it yourself. Since the camera store needs to
make money, its going to offer you a lot less.

You can try to sell it on this board and see what happens.

    update:

The local camera store offered less than half of list which was disappointing because I had planned to purchase a brand new lens from them as part of the deal. I offered it to Adorama (using their online trade-in form) and also listed it for sale on Craigslist, Ebay, and Amazon. It sold on Amazon almost immediately, for twice what the camera store offered. Adorama called and left a voice message and they also sent me an email (on Mother's day no less) saying they were interested, but it was too late--had already sold.

Good news for you, Celeste. I am interested in how you sell on Amazon? Could you share some details of the process? Thanks, dan

Hi Dan -- I have an online retail business (very small) and I put my products on Amazon. It's pretty easy to do -- website here: http://www.amazonservices.com/conten...#!how-it-works If what you are planning to sell is already listed on Amazon--already has a UPC, you don't need to purchase the Pro account w/ the monthly fee (but you'll need to double-check, some categories are excluded.)
