    Default What Flowers Dream

This was a bit of an accident. I took random photos just to test a different lens setup, and this image came out somewhat interesting. I applied serveral layers of textures and slightly masked off the FG flower. I then borrowed a page from John's book and applied a blur vignette. The vignette blend mode I used was Lighten. The rest was lighting work. let me know what you think..........

Jay, this is a unique composition...really like the "dreamscape" quality you've created on the RHS...the hints of detail and form, the pastel colors, and you moved the "sleeping" bloom just enough off center to keep some balance to the composition...at first I thought perhaps you should have gone a bit more past center, but then I think you lose something of your intent...and in this case I think it would weaken the composition. I like the vein structure retained in the petals...I might have toned down the white streak in the petal that is dominant on the RHS of the bloom...and maybe extended the canvas a bit on the LHS to complete the small petal coming from the center of the flower. Good stuff...a new style from you!

Jay, I really like this a lot even if it's a different style for you. I love the composition and the vignette and the bg flower which almost looks like a reflection. The only thing that bothers me a little bit is the texture seems to be stronger on the RHS so it almost looks like noise instead of texture. But I love it just the way it is also

John, Good catch on the white line and left side...........

Cheryl, I didn't think of that until you mentioned it. I was trying to make it "dreamy". I removed the texture and didn't like that too much. Maybe I'll try another full frame texture just and see how that works, or maybe a different texture. I'll sleep on it.

Real nice color and soft light on this, Jay! Like your vignette and texture work, makes for very pleasing composition.

I think it is gorgeous. Pleasing composition with the colors repeated in the bg. The processing is pleasing and brings out the best in the flower. I would tone down the yellow in the bg, as it distracts me. Excellent work.
