Default 119.4 degrees - turn on the water

Several of us were photographing the birds coming to get some water while waiting to enter Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve one afternoon when it was 119.4 degrees. This Purple Sunbird was good at hanging upside down and getting drinks.

I like this one a lot Laurie. I like the position of the bird and it and the faucet are very sharp, nice bg. You will probably get some different crop suggestions. 119.4 sounds brutal!

Laurie, this picture is a contest winner. It is a totally unique backyard photo, and I wish it were mine. I just tried a few different crops. I would tighten it up a little on all slides, but mostly from the left. Why don't you enter this in the backyard division of WildBird Contest. The deadline is May 11.

Excellent capture, it even has its tongue out after those elusive drops.

Very neat, and it tells a story. I'm normally not very fond of such strong hand-of-man elements...but in the context of this photo it works enormously well!!!

Hi Laurie, I like how the sunbird is firmly 'attached' to the bottom of the tap. The droplets add interest, and comp wise, I would crop from the right.

Thank you all for your comments. I was sure that everyone would say to crop more, generally I am so concerned about quality I just hate to do that. I have started looking for opportunities to photograph birds where they have learned to benefit from us. These birds have learned that there is water on the inside of the faucet and except for the danger of unexpected drops, it is a good place for a drink on a hot day.

Stirred my emotions as suddenly I got very thirsty

bet if it was on 500px, it would get a lot of votes if you include your caption.....

Nice one. Cool bird and super clean BG. I agree about trying a different crop.
