My wife Eileen and I took a boat cruise on the Maurice River to photograph Ospreys and we passed this dike farm. I processed the image with Nik color efex and used the solarization filter with adjustments. A bold and slightly eerie look?

Interesting effect from the processing...it reminds me of the old "Munsters" TV comedy (showing my age!). Looking at the house, I wonder if it needs a slight CW rotation; and I find myself wishing that the tree had not been cropped at the top of the image, and perhaps a bit more space on the LHS between the tree and the border of the image. I like the muted colors and the preservation of detail; it might be neat to add something to the black sky; a crescent moon, a lightning bolt, some fog...just thinking outloud, it's your image and your vision! Looking forward to seeing more.

I like this, including the way it's framed. Even with the house pretty much in the center, I like the way you composed it. Whether you were successful in photographing ospreys, or not, you came away with something good.

I had the same reaction as John to the sky. The clipped black is right for the scene, but I wished there was something subtle there to break it up just a bit. I selected a long blobby shape from the water, blended it with the Linear Light mode, reduced the opacity, added a lot of blur, and transformed it for size and shape.

Thank you John and Dennis. The thoughts on the tree touching the top of the frame kind of mirror my thoughts after looking at it more. Dennis, your treatment of the sky is just too cool and I'll have to give a go at trying that technique.

Very cool processing Dave and I like the comp also. Dennis' repost is pretty cool too. I wonder what it might look like with bluer water?

Hi, Dave, I really like the solarization filter on this image. I'm fine with the black background - it gives it more of an illustrated look IMO. I think I would crop from the bottom almost to the edge of the rocks on the LHS which would eliminate most of the water but would still leave enough so you'd know where the house was sited.

I love the solarization effect on this. I think I might try adding a little canvas to the top to see if you can keep from clipping the tree and give it just a slight CW rotation. I like Cheryl's suggestion for cropping a bit from the lower edge and also Andrew's idea for making the water a little more blue. It's an interesting image and I think there's a lot of different ways you could approach this.

Dave, It's a great looking effect. The house adds nicely to the eerie look. I agree about the tree at the top and could go either way with the sky. I think that everyone offered some great suggestions. The possibilities are endless here. Nice work!

I appreciate the thoughts from everyone as always. This shot does seem to offer up a lot of different directions to pursue. I'll be giving a look to each suggestion. It was a fun project, just needs some more play time. Cogratulations again to Cheryl on her new status.
