This one is just for sharing and looking. It is my inspiration to think before clicking, not geting too close, check your exposure, and just plain awe factor. It also was done in jpeg not raw, still learning when this was imaged. I am keeping it to remind me to get one with the whole loon in the frame with the babies next time. LOL. :D
90% of frame, cropped for a 9x12. I would not sell this one but I am hanging it on my office wall to inspire me to get it right next time. Judy gave me some great advice folks in a PM. She is top shelf. I would like to say thanks to all of the publishers for their patience and sharing of their valuable knowledge. I want to learn all I can to showcase my little corner of creation. See you James, Blake.

WOW...Very nice capture Grady.. would have liked to have seen more of mom's tail...:D But the photo tells the story...congrats...:D colors are very pleasing, very soft and natural...:)
Hi Grady Those birds are difficult to expose under any circumstances !!! Soft light is the key!!!
As presented it is tight in frame and the head is looking away There is detail in the dark areas at the expense of whites Composition wise would include the entire duck it sees clipped as presented
Might also want to line up the best possible bg The grass running through the head detracts form the image !!! Waiting to see you next tries and do hop you will be shooting RAW !!! Will make a difference !!!
Wonderful photo! These loons are so diffucult to approach and especialy when their loved ones are with them.
For sure it will be better with the entire loon, but as is i would be very glad to get one picture of this kind.
Congratulations.
For me, the best thing about this image is the COMP (which others seem not to like). The head facing away, the one sleeping bird, the shoreline intersecting the top of the head, and the one sleeping chick are all negatives. The light actually looks pretty nice. Lastly, the two faces could stand some more sharpening.
