Default Ruby-Crowned Kinglet, saucy and verdant with a PROBLEM

    Hello? Folks!
This r.c. kinglet was snapped the other day with the Canon 7D and 70-300L at 300mm. iso400, 1/250, f5.6.
Will welcome your opinions...haven't felt the need to post in a while but the spirit moved me tonight. I eagerly anticipate your friendly onslaughts!
First, a self-critique: I'm very fond of this one but the blueish greyness at bottom left does irritate. I wish the whole thing were green, or among the greens. Maybe I can fix that somehow? You know, surround the kinglet with greens on all sides? Somehow?
    All good things,

Too much room at the top and the bright bottom draws the eye from the subject. Fine pose and detail. Would als take just a bit off the right side as well. With a little work this could be a very strong image.

    Jack,

I would leave it as is! The blue/grey at the bottom is complimentary to the colors in the bird. Does not detract for me but then this is just my opinion and I like variety in photos.

Jack if you want to brush over the bottom blue/grey area to make it appear a little more consistent wit the rest of the image background take the eye dropper tool and select a suitable shade of green. Then select the brush tool set it to soft and to an opacity of 20-30% and brush away at the area until you get the colour range you wish for. I would consider brightening the eye a little bit on the bird. Hope this helps a little.

Jonathan! I didn't ask for such advice but that was EXACTLY the advice I wanted. So: it helps a lot. Many thanks. That should make this image better for me. Indeed, brightening the eye is a whizbang idea also.

an incredibly quick and sloppy and nasty and bad re-do, but you'll get the idea...would welcome your comments...

The bottom of the OP doesn't really detract for me. Wish the bird were not in the center though and would therefore take some off of the right. Nice details in the feathers and I really like the environment included here with the canopy of vegetation over the bird.

Thanks Marina, the bottom-left is growing on me too. In this case I love the bird-in-centre but I won't argue! Will see how it looks with a little off the right...many thanks...
