Default Reel Foot Lake - Eagle

Morning light at Reel Foot, this guy posed on a branch for over 10 minutes. Sitting in a tree looking over the Mississippi river for fishing opportunities. Not the best picture of the day but the wind in his head gives a feeling of power and freedom IMO.

Love the wind look also...not just against the head but the whole body.
Besides power, gives it a sense of movement without moving.

Jeff, nice capture of the spirit of the eagle. Easy to see why this bird was chosen for our national symbol! I'm not sure about the crop, I would probably lose the twigs on the left and make this a vertical. Thanks for sharing!

I also love the ruffled feathers, wind blown look and the high key effect as well. Great job with the sharpness, was this from a boat?

I live in central Ky. and one of my friends goes to Reel Foot every spring for fishing. He has told me of the eagles there....were there lots of opportunities like this one?

    Joel,

There are plenty of opportunities there especially in the months between Dec and April with the chicks. Interesting to note when the juvs grow up they return to the nest and hunt for food. The adult eagles have to hunt for food and protect the nest at the same time, interesting to see the air battles between the adults and kids. Like our species its the kids that will drive you crazy.

This was take with a tripod beneath the tree line, he was on a branck about 30 feet overhead.
