This little guy was in his favorite watering hole at Wakodahatchee Wetlands, last Saturday. He was painted with a Nikon D70s using the Nikkor 300mm f/4.

Personal obseravation here - to me - he just looks like he is swimming down hill - I wonder if it needs to be straightened a little, others with more experience than me will surely advise.
ok, i gave it a shot.:) recrop, brightened head and try to tone down the hot spot on his rear end with not much success. a little more USM on the eye. bird still looks really soft. sorry i couldnt fix that.:o
Hi Gus !!! Something interesting here !!! Look at the body of the quaker .... the rear end is overcooked and the front underexposed !!!
For this guy you had the sun from the hard right It lit up the lighter side while the front was in shadows Made for the worst scenario Try figuring first the exposure (checking histogram) Strong light, dark water, lots of white areas = under exposure compensation The dark areas will open up the meter and overexposed. For the front part you need the sun at your back to evenly light the bird !!!
Composition wise I like the crop Harold tried Duck looks good in frame with plenty of room but he might still be swimming downhill? Maybe is an optional illusion !!!
