    I took this image in early morning light. It helped that it was a very cooperative bird.
    Comments and critques appreciated.

    Canon EOS 20D w/ 500 4L IS and 1.4 teleconverter
    ISO 400 1/50 @ f8

    Shes very nice, one thing thats nice about the pileated is the long tail feather and I think it would be better to show it and not crop it off. Very nice work though. She looks like a young one. Rod

    Very nice composition Jim.
    Love the action and the colors and details on the woody. Would try adding just a tad of canvas to the left of the frame so that Mr. bird will not hit his head up against the tight frame for lack of room...:eek: Outside of this, I love it...:D

    lovely details in the head & wing feathers.
    wud agree with Gus on giving little more space on the left...

    Very nice exposure control, angle and BG, it is just a bit tight in the frame and the clipped tail has been mentioned. Keep them coming!

    Excellent eye level. A little too tight in the frame for my taste. I would also push the colors a Little more.

    Oh man that clipped tail is a real bummer!! Impressive sharpness for 1/50s. A bit of fill would have helped with the lower part of the bird...
