Yes, simple background, but I find it effective and certainly doesn't distract from the subject.
It is interesting how most of the images we see are of juvis and females, not an adult male like you have captured.

I like this setting, actually. whites look very good....so does the comp. I am wondering if f/9 would have been enough and it would have given more smooth BG...but this BG is quite smooth. You must've been really close.
