I had a long wait and a short shooting this early morning.
I was hoping for a flying out of the hole shot, but it just did not happen.
He just got out and went to the other side of the tree.
This individual has black malar whereas some others have red.
    Thanks for looking.

Excellent work here Karl. Good detail and colour. The blue is slightly distracting but there is not much you can do about that in the field.

    Karl:

A nice plump flicker, well exposed.

The head is a bit soft.

I agree with Adrian about the blue. Toning it down a bit in post might help.

Now if we could just get the birds to do what we want as far as posing and flying in the right direction

    Cheers

    Thanks Randy., good points.
I selected the blue by colour. I then turned the saturation of blue and cyan down a bit.
Then still working on the selected blue, I turned the exposure value down ever so slightly.
I then selected the head and applied a low grade extra sharpening.

    Karl:

The blue is softer on the repost, less forward, which helps.

THe head is showing more contrast now to my eye, but doesn't seem sig. sharper. Hopefully others will chime in on their sense of it!

    Cheers
