Default Hooded Crow preening in morning light

This is a holiday snap from last year in Italy - on an early morning walk I found this Hooded Crow (Corvus corone cornix) taking a break with perfect light and a clear sky background. Particularly liked this preening shot. These guys look really scruffy - black and dirty whites - but this light brought out a lot of colors we don't usually see.

Canon EOS 1D MkIII, EF500mm f/4L mounted on Gitzo tripod with Mongoose head
    1/1000 sec at f/8.0, ISO 400

Imported into LR3, Curves adjustment in CS5.1, Topaz Detail 2, Nik Dfine NR on background, USM

    Comments and suggestions welcomed.

    Thanks,

    Gerald

Very nice image and composition, I too think it is a little on the bright side, for example if you have a good look at the branch, it looks almost silver coloured in parts.

Thanks all for the feedback - much appreciated. I take the point about the brightness - I think the bird is OK, but I need to knock back the branch a notch or two!

Gerald, good advice above. I liked the comp. strong diagonal. Pose is excellent as well. nice details and good to see the eye.
