Default Canon 7D Error Message 30

    Hello folks

I got the Error message 30 on my 7D the other day and need to know how serious this is. It seems to have fixed itself after I took the battery out a couple of times and turned it on and off as per the manual but as the 7D is my main body I don't want it failing on me in the field.

I was using it with the Canon 50mm 1.4 lens when I got the error.

Canon repair centre quotes 6-8 weeks repair turnaround which isn't going to work now that I have my first child to photograph and trips coming up this year. Maybe it's time to tell the wife I need a second body :)

    Thanks

    Jamie

Camera is just over 2 years old.

    Hi Jamie

I had this happen to me last year in during a trip to Mallorca, but the camera basically died and would only show this error code. So it went back to Canon and been fine ever since.

    Cheers

    Rich

Try a new battery, a friend of mine had a similar problem and it was the battery.

Maybe I missed it..what was the error message exactly? I have a 7d and have had an issue with not recognizing the battery...was that the issue or something else?

Have you done a firmware upgrade that could be causing the error code ?

    Thanks for the feedback.

No there has not been any recent firmware upgrades for the 7D and it is up to date. Info on the web suggests Error Code 30 could be related to the shutter jamming but I am not 100% sure. The user manual does not say what it is related to either under the listing of error codes. Initially I would get the error message on the back screen but the last two times it has stopped working the backscreen goes off and the LCD display shows the word error flashing.

A bit of a bugger really and I think it will end up going for repair.

Error code 30 is a generic error code in EOS cameras, it can be anything from shutter failure to bad CPU contact to a bad CF card. After resetting the camera, cleaning the contacts, using a different CF card and a different lens if it is not resolved only solution is to send to Canon for repair.

while I on two occasions have had error codes on the 7D, I have not had that one...and mine were more verbose...I had to send my back to Canon but they turned them around very quickly. A bit of a bugger , yes indeed.

Thanks Arash. Is there a way to back up custom settings to CF card before I reset everything?

Glad you got everything resolved Steve.
