~I was glad that I did not sleep yesterday morning despite the weather forecast. I decided to take a chance and head over to Ft. Desoto Park. It was a cloudy day. This ibis was feeding near the lagoon. I was able to approach it slowly. Before clicking the shutter, I challenged myself to get a close up portrait action shot. My goal was to shoot in portrait, fill the action in the frame as much as I could. This is almost full frame, little crop. Cloudy day. I had to manual focus as it was too close. Added a little filled flash and this is the result. I am happy with the shot.

I like your weather forecast be damned attitude Troy! I also like the way you had some photographic objectives and got the shot you were looking for. The image itself is quite nice, with good detail and excellent composition. I might tone down the brightest part of the bird in the URC.

Hi Troy, I like how the Ibis leads into the frame, and good to see his catch inbetween his bill. Love the blue eye against the pinks of the head. Well done for achieving what you set out to do.

Thank you all. Doug, will revisit the shot. Looks like we missed each other again this time.

I was out in the sticks with Jim Neiger. We never got close to anyone!

Troy, excellent composition. Am sure you did a fine job visualizing it before the approach. Flash work looks good. Hope you can get another one against nice blue water on a sunny day.

    Troy:

Nice job here. I often set small goals with each trip out, keeps it interesting.

THe image captures the essential aspects of the white ibis, long bill, blue eye, orange face. Feeding behaviour.

I do agree about the brightness of the body, perhaps a 1/4 stop darker would work well for me.

    Cheers
