As a rule I rarely do Avian, not sure why, but when the occasion arises well, it's good fun and can still be just as testing at times too. Having put up more bird boxes along one my stretches in between the monsoons, I noticed that there were a pair of Bullfinches floating around, so with the camera close at hand I set too to getting some images and this is one of them. Sadly with adding feeders and bird boxes this is now a great mobile kitchen for either the Sparrow hawk or Goshawk that seems to be patrolling this location. As I took this shot he/she grabbed a snack!

Nice bird, soft light and good colors. DOF feels just perfect for making the BG fade, this way the not parallel perch to the sensor doesn't bother. Nice work.

    Hi Steve
excellent IQ, superb bird would like to take pictures in my backyard.
I would move the bird more to the left in the frame, and you have a blue cast in the neutral and black parts of the bird.

    cheers andreas

Superb Steve, feel I could pick him up, great IQ and pose

I checked for blue cast, while there is a bluish sheen to certain blacks , black is level in several places at 4. Blue sheen often appears naturally I think cos of lighting

Steve, you should do Avian more often. colors, details, HA, light...I like everything. When I first looked at it, I thought about crop from behind...but the more I look at it, I wouldn't want to clip the branch and the leaves there. You certainly positioned yourself very well here to get the clean distant BG behind the head. Awesome shot.

    Thanks guys.

Andreas, you could take a hint out to cool the grey down, but I feel it's marginal and as the majority of colours look good IMHO, I am going to leave as is, but thanks.

Richard, I've been asked recently to also add 'subject distance' to the 'techs', so this was shot at 6.3m, not quite a distance where you could pick it up, just let the camera give that impression

Kaustubh, there are too many good images posted here, so I need to be selective at times. The location is a hedgerow with a very messy, interweaving branches, not ideal for this work and so I had to position myself in a limited position, watch where they would regularly land and hope. There is more space all round the subject, however the soft green is a hedgerow in the distance and tails off between these branches giving grey patches, so I thought I would crop as tight as I have, still working in RoTs.

    cheers
