    Richard requested the female so here she is! The pale twiggy bits are the dead incompletely burnt twigs of heather. The heather is routinely burned to promote new growth to provide ideal habitat for the grouse.....so they can be shot in great numbers.... with guns as opposed to cameras. I suppose if they were not then it would be more difficult to photograph them so I am not too sure if I should be resentful or grateful!!

    Nice light and angle with plenty of detail. I really like how you can tell from this image how their markings would help them blend in with the BG

    Nice detail and excellent light. The brighter stems/twigs on the left are a little distracting for me, but it is a very sweet image.

    Aaah! The hunting conundrum... !

    Hi Jon, good low angle, head turn and eye contact. I like the sharp details and colours on her, which blend in nicely with the surrounding heather. Well captured.
