Green Heron at Venice Rookery in January. These birds often lurk in busy habitat, and lighting was tough; but I liked the pose and the catch.

    Hi Bill
nice enviro shot, busy of course as you said, but fine IMO, perfect timing with nice prey, colors are really great and this is probably one ogf the best "true to life" colors I have seen for this species on here, tfs

    Bill:

Excellent timing, nice colors on the bird, sharp.

Contrast a bit high from the harsh light, but still works well. Might try a version with the contrast backed down a bit.

Yes to the busy bg, but I rarely seem them in the open.

    Cheers

    Bill:

I had a couple minutes to tweak your image. Did a moderate vignette to reduce the impact of the busy BG a bit, lowered the contrast on the image with a small reverse S curve.

Plays a bit better IMO. Just some options.

    Cheers

Thanks all. Especially Randy for taking the time to rework. I had thought that the contrast on the bird might help separate it from the background (I didn't add contrast, but it was there from the harsh light); but I agree the repost helps, both from the vignetting and the lowered contrast. I appreciate it.
